There are some places that stay on your bucket list for years, quietly waiting for the right opportunity. For me, Skomer Island has always been one of those places.
Situated just off the coast of Pembrokeshire, Skomer is renowned for its spectacular wildlife, dramatic coastal scenery, and one of the largest Atlantic puffin colonies in southern Britain. For a wildlife photographer, it's a location that almost feels mythical, a place you've seen countless times in photographs but long to experience for yourself.
This journey began long before I stepped onto the island. It started with weeks of planning, watching weather forecasts, checking ferry times, charging batteries, cleaning lenses, and carefully deciding which camera equipment to pack. Like many photography adventures, the excitement isn't just about arriving at the destination, it's about everything that leads up to it.
Setting off before sunrise, camera gear loaded and plenty of anticipation, I made the journey towards the Welsh coastline. Every mile brought me closer to somewhere I'd wanted to visit for a very long time. As the ferry crossed the water and Skomer's rugged cliffs came into view, the anticipation quickly turned into excitement.
Stepping onto the island was something I'll never forget. The sound of thousands of seabirds filled the air, the sea stretched endlessly around the cliffs, and before long I found myself face-to-face with one of Britain's most charismatic birds—the Atlantic puffin. Watching these incredible little birds go about their daily lives in their natural habitat was every bit as special as I'd imagined.
While the puffins were undoubtedly the stars of the day, Skomer offered so much more. From the dramatic cliffs and sweeping coastal views to the peaceful moments between wildlife encounters, every part of the island had something unique to offer. It reminded me why I love wildlife photography—not just for the images it produces, but for the experiences, patience, and connection with nature that come with it.
Throughout the trip I captured both photographs and cinematic footage, documenting not only the wildlife but the entire journey. My goal was to create something that tells the complete story—from the anticipation before leaving home to the unforgettable moments spent on the island.

I hope the film captures not only the beauty of Skomer Island but also the feeling of being there, surrounded by some of the UK's most extraordinary wildlife.
